1“Amazing place if you cant find peace here you can’t find peace anywhere.”
Nestled at the base of the la plata mountains where the natives believe life began is echo basin resort. The energy is as pure as the crisp mountain air. If you look up you will most likely see a golden eagle soaring in the colorado blue sky. There are giant mule deer bucks sharing the space with the campers and the wedding parties. It is a place that will create stories for me to tell my friends and family for a lifetime. We stayed in a large rustic cabin that was a perfect fit for our family. Plenty of room and a nice kitchen for snacks and favorite foods. The restaurant was great very ranch like and comfortable great for the kids. We ate amazing home cooked breakfasts with food we bought from the local natural foods store. Amazing hikes just up the road in the mornings kiddos down for a nap in the afternoon cold brew on the deck of our cabin while the kids sleep sound. This is a real colorado experience. On a year round working ranch we really felt as their guest. We were looking for peace and found it we will be going back. We found a place where stories are made.  Stayed July 2011
2.  “Rustic but wonderful RV camping”
What a great place to beat the summer time heat of the Southwest. We just spent 2 nights at the ranch with our 22′ travel trailer. The RV sites are scattered among low oak trees and towering Ponderosa pines with some sites out in the open and others more private. Because the ranch is 3.5 miles from the highway, it’s wonderfully quiet. Camp hosts were very welcoming. Bathroom/ shower facilities show their age of construction but are clean and well kept. We’ll be back for sure. Stayed July 2014, traveled as a couple
3.  “Relaxing!!”
We stayed at the cabins for a wedding and it was amazing! The grounds/views/atmosphere was wonderful!! The environment lent itself for family and friends to hang out and visit. There were opportunities for all ages to have a great time. Just remember that you are in the mountains and it gets cool in the evenings even in the summer! Stayed June 2014

5.  “Family Reunion”
3 of 5 starsReviewed August 3, 2014
Just finished a family reunion at Echo Basin. The Ranch was pretty perfect, if not a little funky, for such an occasion. But we like funky. Lovely tall pines, lots of shade, a little running stream close to our cabin, beautiful nighttime skies, fire pits for bonfires, covered picnic tables and more. We rented one of the cooking cains and 3 smaller cabins.
6. “Wonderful experience!”
I got married at the ranch. We had a wonderful time. The staff was kind and helpful. I’m so glad I chose to get married at Echo Basin.
My family had a lot if young children and they thought the grounds were amazing. Stayed June 2014
7. “Great Rustic Ranch”
Was out here for a wedding in June 2013. Great rustic feel, just what this city boy needed in order to get away and feel good. Clean air, lots of activities. Staff had a real good attitude and even though I don’t think this establishment is family run, the staff all treat you like you are visiting their house. Stayed June 2013, traveled with family

I found this rv park last year while spending the summer at a RV park in Durango.I made plans to come to Echo basin this summer.I love the park, big spots and shaded. So cool at this altitude.Bill the park mgr and all the work campers are so helpful and nice. It would be nice if they kept the office open during the day but Bill is always handy to answer any questions and help in any way.I would recommend this park to my friends and anyone else..I will be back for 3 months each summer out of the Tx heat. 9.  Nice place if you want to stay away from crowded campgrounds
We stayed here the second time with our RV. This is a nice secluded campground at $ 43.00 a little overpriced however it is really peacefull, much better than staying at the KOA next to the road in Cortez. Don’t expect the pool to be heated….you need to be a member of the polar club to enjoy that one.

First and foremost – we had a great time at Echo Basin! Our boys loved the mountain experience. Just know you’re staying in a rustic cabin … not a hotel! Our only problem with our stay is that the mountain setting is perfect for weddings – and they do a lot of them. Both nights we stayed there, the restaurant (that doubles as the reception hall) was rocking! The wedding receptions were obviously fun – but were right outside our cabin. Don’t expect a quiet evening in the mountains.

A destination park during tourist season for sure. Tennis, swimming, fishing, horseback rides, cafe, BB court, and more. We stayed when the resort had closed most facilities for the season except for full RV hookups. That is all we needed anyway, while exploring the areas national parks and museums for several days. The sites are well dispersed with plenty of room between rigs. Easy access with both long back-ins and some pull-throughs. Camp hosts were very friendly and had a packet that showed many area points of interest. Very quiet and peaceful, level FHU sites and our Verizon signal was very strong and our satellite dish worked well. A PPA RV park. We would stay again. We camped here in a Motorhome.  September 2010
14. “Our family of 5 just took a 4 week tour across the US and this was by far everyone’s favorite camp.” Dad for the easy hookups and level site. Kids had tons to do, the staff was very friendly and we extended our stay here another night. There was entertainment and a reunion going on on one side of the park and we still had peace and quiet for a restful night at our camp. It’s definitely a destination park, but we enjoyed it as a peaceful and well kept stop-over spot as well. We’re already thinking about coming back with friends. We camped here in a Motorhome.  August 2010

16. “We initially planned on staying a week and ended up staying 3 weeks.” What a nice place to stay with beautiful views and really nice people that offer lots of things to do. They offer horseback riding (ride theirs or bring your own) with miles and miles of trails into the beautiful San Juan Mountains. You can swim in the pool, soak in the hot tub, get a massage, play golf, volleyball, basketball, tennis, etc. Bring your 4 wheelers for family outings. It even offers the perfect setting to get married! They have a nice restaurant with a reasonably priced menu and delicious food. The folks that own and run this establishment are top drawer. They really go out of their way to accommodate your needs. We had a great time and would absolutely stay here again! We are fulltimer’s and Echo Basin is one of the nicest places we’ve stayed. Our rate was the Camp Club USA rate! We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.  May 2010
17. “This is our second visit in as many years and we love it.” This is not a resort with parking lot style sites. This is camping in the pines with lots of space between sites, clean air, solitude and beautiful mountain views. We’ll definitely be back here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.  June 2009
18. “What a great place to camp – my wife wants to live in this area.” Don’t let one bad review scare you away from this CG. It is not a resort, and it is some distance from Mesa Verde and Durango but even those drives had breathtaking scenery. If you like to camp in the peace and quiet of the country, this is the place. We were backed up to the horse pasture and loved to watch them run. The wi-fi is available only at the office but we were told that they plan to install antennea out in the CG. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.  May 2009
19. Stayed here for two nights as we were going to do Mesa Verde, but it was so nice and cool under the big trees that we just stayed in the park.” I’m glad we stayed here instead of the ones closer to the park as they didn’t have the shade this one does. The help was a bunch of fun. There was a nice pool, great looking horses for riding, good food(and bar), clean looking pool, and a pitch and putt. There are lots of ATV’s, but you didn’t notice them. We would really go back there if we’re in the area again.. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.  June 2008
20. “Close to Mesa Verde. Beautiful mountain campground, lots of Ponderosa pine and wildlife.” Walked out to a 4×5 mule deer in my space one morning. I would go back any time. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.  June 2007
21. “Excellent campground that I would highly recommend to anyone.” We had a luxury site which was easy to get into with a 45′ motorhome without un-hooking our tow car. The owners are charming. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome. There was free popcorn made all day which was a treat for our grand children. The WiFi is excellent The campground is immaculate and it is in a perfect location to visit Mesa Verde. We camped here in a Motorhome.  June 2007
22.  “Loved Service location and Area.”
My family and I had a lovely time here. We stayed in a cabin which we found very comfortable. There are several types of cabins; ours had a refrigerator, microwave and coffeemaker but there are others with full kitchens. (I second the comment that some basic dishes and cutlery would have been useful, though.) The grounds are gorgeous, complete with deer and horses–my teenagers were in heaven and enjoyed exploring. There is also a pool and hot tub to enjoy after you have spent the day exploring Mesa Verde. The property is large; cabins are on one side and there are RV facilities on the other. (You can’t see or hear the RVs from the cabins.) The owners and staff were especially friendly, helpful and patient with our fluctuating schedule. They had lots of information about the surrounding area, fishing, etc. We took advantage of the guided horseback riding, which we enjoyed. We would return any time!

23. “Most Beautiful Campground We have ever been too.”
5 of 5 starsReviewed June 19, 2010
My husband and I chose Echo Basin Ranch RV resort due to location in between Durango and Cortez Colorado. My parents, aunt and uncle ( from Florida) , my husband and I all had campers and we wanted to explore the Mesa Verde Indian ruins in Mesa Verde and go on the historic scenic train from Durango to Silverton. We chose Echo Basin due to being centrally located and all the amenities of the resort. They offered a pool, spa, golfing, fishing and horseback riding. The place is very well maintained and the cabins on the site are adorable. We ate at the restaurant one night and our meal was fabulous and cooked perfectly. I had a massage there and would recommend the massage therapist to everyone that visits there. She was awesome. The place has streams and beautiful scenery. The horseback riding is wonderful. We did not have children in our group but I noticed there was alot of things to keep children busy with a playground and sandbox stocked with toys, swing sets etc. We will be returning there again next month and bringing our friends. It was fabulous. I was sad to leave this morning!!! We have a beautiful home to return to and we are usually excited to return home but not this time, it was sad to leave!!! I would recommend highly . Stayed June 2010, traveled as a couple
24. “GREAT family place.”
By Family of 6, 8/11/10
Absolutely beautiful location! VERY kid friendly. Basketball court, volleyball court, tire swing, regular swings, merry-go-round, all nestled in the wooded area. Horses on site, very friendly handlers, nice stable location for horses. Message therapy on site for $39 for an hour! Loved that! Nice big clean pool area. Beautiful putting greens (looks like a mini gold course to me). Beautifully landscaped. Elegant & fun restaurant w/ pool tables, dance floor and bar area. Cabins are a bit close, however it’s VERY quiet and private. You can move tables/chairs around however you like. Fire pit and charcoal grills available. We stayed in cabin 11 (deluxe cabin) and we were very pleased. Cabins are 50 years old, decorations are out of date, furniture is old. However, if we wanted the “Hilton” then that’s where we would have stayed. We stayed at Echo for the beautiful location, BIG cabin w. amenities, family friendly, pool, golf, horse back riding, etc. So just keep that in mind if you choose to stay here. It’s like camping “upscale”. The deluxe cabin does have a full service kitchen, 2 bathrooms, enough space to comfortably sleep 15 people, and the coolest little cubby hole behind the stair case, PERFECT for toys and for kids to play! WE did have one problem w/ the cleaning staff being VERY rude and hateful. However I made 1 phone call to talk with the owner (who lives on-site) and she apologized and went above & beyond to make sure we were taken care of despite the hateful cleaning person. I do sincerely hope she is fired for her actions and no other guests have to encounter what we did. Overall, we are pleased and would consider going back for another family vacation!

This pet friendly ranch is appox 25 mins from Durango with beautiful scenery along the way. Surrounded by deer, elk, and other wildlife this ranch is a perfect fit for anyone who wants to get away from hustle and bustle of the city. Its location is quite and peaceful. The number of activities consist of horseback riding and fishing. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. Our stay was exactly what we were looking for. The cabins are somewhat old but very clean and cozy. During our stay we were surrounded by a number of other families who were also friendly. Every cabin has porch that leads out to a fire pit (perfect to roasting marshmallows) a BBQ (perfect for cooking) and picnic tables (perfect for eating). I highly recommend the ranch to anyone who enjoys any and all the things I said. I look forward to our stay there next summer!

This is a wonderful place to go to get away from everything. The campground personnel are very friendly and willing to go out of their way to help you and make things easier. We went on a trail ride through the property. Our guide was a very knowledgeable person and was very friendly (we are thinking about sending our daughters to her to have riding lessons and some of her friends as well). The restraunt staff was also great, the food was decent for the price, and they even had some comparable drink prices.
The campground was clean and organized, they were almost full to capacity in the cabins, and the only downfall was that the pool was being worked on and would be open after we left. However we will be going back as soon as we possibly can.
I wish to say “Thank You to all”!

28. “great place to relax The setting here is beautiful” and away from the highway so it is wonderful to hear the birds and the horses. Horseback rides are available for a fee, and the restaurant offers a full menu. I recommend the fish and the burger was so big my husband and I shared it for dinner one night. They have a bar and pool tables with an occasional game of Texas Hold-em going on. We met wonderful camp hosts who invited us to play cards on other nights as well but we were busy seeing the sights in the area like Mesa Verde National Park. 2008

30. “Beautiful setting, very friendly place.”
Reviewed September 5, 2009
We planned a trip to Durango and decided we wanted to stay in a cabin, and found Echo Basin in Mancos, about 22 miles from Durango. It was really wonderful. The cabin was very spacious, and grounds were beautiful, and we had deer walking right by our campsite. They arranged a trail ride for us on short notice and tried to accommodate us in any way they could. The cabin did not have any dishes, silverware, or cookware, so I was a little thrown off by that. You ARE camping, but my boys so enjoying lighting the campfire each night. Linens are not changed during your stay, except for towels, which you put outside of your cabin and they drop of fresh ones later in the day. The cabin is not fancy. The beds were servicable, and the bunk beds were metal barracks-style. My teen loved retreating to the loft in the cabin. The restaurant at the lodge is adequate, but the restaurant in Mancos itself is excellent. The bar at the lodge is good and they have free pool on Thursdays. The outdoor swimming pool was well kept. The beauty of the setting would sell me on staying here again, as well as the helpfulness of the staff. And while the cabin didn’t have a lot of amenities (tv did not work) it had it’s own charm. Overall, this was a great place to stay.

4 of 5 starsReviewed August 7, 2009
I and my family have stayed at Echo Basin Ranch on several occassions. We found the surroundings to be beautifully kept (where they needed to be), and beautifully wild (where they naturally should be), and after daylight hours spent exploring the ranch or the local community it was always a pleasure to return to our little cottage and relax. Additionally, we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The Grounds Manager, Jennie Ogden, was always knowledgeable about local places to go, and offered suggestions pleasantly and with enthusiasm. If there was anything which truly suprised me it was the fervor with which Jennie seemed to attack every aspect of the management of the property, and the fact that I noticed her pitching in with her co-workers where ever there was need, from cleaning rooms to cooking/serving meals. This is a place I will recommend whole heartedly. Diana in California

Me and 2 other girlfriends came here for a little 4 day getaway weekend and stayed in a cabin, very clean and the staff was very friendly and tentative! There were work campers there that were picking weeds and cleaning the grounds while we stayed, looked very nice! We aet at the restaurant a few nights which is very cute, with a dance floor and met all the other fellow campers there, including some town folk from Mancus that where there! The food was good, pretty simple and no problems with the service. We met the management and the owners, and they were all very welcoming and friendly! I cant wait to go back!
The best part was riding the horses around the trails, through the meadows, and by the rivers… so beautiful! :) The horses were all very well trained, which was great since one girl in my group had never rode horses before. I took my dog and we were able to go hiking around there too on some trails, so beautiful!
The pool and hot tub was very nice even though it was still a little cool for the pool when we went, and there are plenty of activities for kids, such as basketball court and vollyball.
I am planning my trip back very soon before fall comes and cant wait!!

The restaraunt is now open from Wednesday to Sunday. We ate there one night and it was THE BEST meal we had in Colorado that week. I wish we had eaten there every night.Liz, our chef, took care of our every need. We also got a hug from her before turning in for the night. Cant say that has ever happened anywhere. The meal was prepared to perfection and worth every penny. 41. “One Of The Prettiest RV Parks in Colorado.”
4 of 5 starsReviewed July 1, 2009
Echo Basin’s RV Park has to be, without a doubt, one of the prettiest RV parks in the state of Colorado. It is so serene – surrounded by mountains, with fresh air galore, wide, shaded spaces and a few ponds here and there. I can’t name another RV park in the country that we stayed at that was surrounded by 600 acres with a national forest right next door. You can walk your dog for hours and never once have to retrace your footsteps. At night it was so dark you felt as if you could reach up and touch the stars, the darkness was that absolute. There’s a horse corral on the grounds, a few friendly goats to keep you company (they’re very sweet) and wildlife everywhere. This was our second visit and we plan to return. I can’t remember ever having such a peaceful night’s sleep in an RV park. To us, Echo Basin’s location is perfect, because it is nestled somewhat between Cortez (and Mesa Verde NP) and Durango, and although all the tourist hot spots are within a short drive, the RV park and dude ranch are off the beaten path and NOT directly on a busy highway or thoroughfare. It’s like coming home to the country – and what beautiful country this corner of Colorado has to offer.

43.  “A Piece of Heaven.”
5 of 5 starsReviewed June 26, 2009
My family usually vacations at a campground in Montana every year. We loved it, but it has been turned into an RV park. I didn’t think I would find a campground that I would like as much as that….I was so wrong!!!! We were lucky to make reservations and stay at Echo Basin Ranch!!! My whole family has fallen in love with it! We were planning to spend a few days in Mesa Verda and see other area attractions, instead, we went to Mesa Verda for one day and didn’t want to leave the ranch grounds. There are several ponds, lakes and a river on the property. My son had a blast fishing with his dad. We all went swimming, played volleyball, basketball and horseshoes. Don’t worry, you don’t need to bring your own sports equipment, it’s all there for you to check out. I enjoyed the peacefulness of the ranch. You can hike or drive to a lower lake, and that’s just what we did. We saw deer in the different fields or standing near the ponds every day of our stay. Just sitting back and listening to nature was wonderful but when I looked around at the vast natural beauty, it felt like a piece of heaven on Earth. I was concerned when I saw the actual cabin area…the cabins are a little closer than I would have preferred, but I was happily surprised with the set up, once we settled in. There was a feeling of belonging and friendship amongst the campers. Now for the staff, they were unbelievably kind and helpful, every one of them! I didn’t realize I was speaking to the manager of the ranch as I sat by the poolside. I just thought it was another mom picking up her kid. She took the time to stop and chat as I began conversation. No hurrying off, no awkwardness, she has a way with people. After I asked her about the area and where she was from, she told me that she was the manager. I saw her pitching in and working in the kitchen, helping with the cabins…whatever she was doing, she had a smile. The other workers did too. I feel like these are old friends, especially Jennie, the manager.
Oh, I mentioned the kitchen…there is a restaurant on the ranch and its open, four days a week, I think. We went there on our last night and the food was delicious! You get lots of great food for a great price! I have meat eaters and vegetarians in our family, and we all left full and happy!
The ranch offers horseback riding for an extra cost and we took the family for a two-hour ride. Meagan, the head-wrangler was amazing! She has a natural way with horses and a whole lot of knowledge to go along with it. The ride was not a boring trail ride like some that I experienced. The horses were well behaved but still had spirit. The trails wound up and down the mountain, across streams, over logs etc.
The cabins were perfect! We had our own bathroom, a loft bedroom and the main room was like a hotel room. It had a bed, a table with two chairs, a bunkbed, kitchen area…sink, little fridge and microwave but, no stove. That was fine because we brought a little camping stove, set it on the picnic table outside and we were set. The ranch also provides towels. They will wash them and deliver fresh towels daily. I stayed in the smaller type of cabin. The ranch also offers an RV area and tent area.
I can’t say enough about the ranch. I can’t wait to go back. I’d love to have a family reunion there, go with a group of friends, go with my family every year or by myself for a getaway. I loved this place 100% ! I am trying to be fair and say something to improve on but besides, maybe putting a broom in every cabin, to sweep out the normal leaves that get dragged in, I can’t think of anything! When the office knew I wanted a broom, I had it within 2 minutes!! I know this is lengthy…but I want you to know what an amazing place this is! If you want to have a great time in the outdoors, don’t miss Echo Basin Ranch!!!!

Echo Basin Ranch is a wonderful combination of value and beauty. Located between Durango and Mesa Verde, it is only a short drive off the highway into the hidden ranch. The setting is very green with lots of trees, hiking trails, fishing spots and even horse back riding. The most appealing aspect of Echo Basin is that the simple and cozy cabins are very affordable- a great deal for us since we spend all of our time on outdoor adventures and just needed a comfortable place to sleep! Definitely come to Echo Basin for the true Colorado experience that doesn’t cost much and offers it all!

46. “Echo Basin Ranch…….A hidden God’s country.”
4 of 5 starsReviewed June 19, 2009
Being from Minnesota, We always hear that we live in God’s Country, however, as we passed through Colorado and found Echo Basin Ranch, we now know that God shared his beauty in more places than Minnesota.
We actually passed thru early May, and EBR was in the middle of getting put back together after the long winter. Being Minnesota resort owners, we certainly understood why the grass was in need of grooming, as well as everything else on the property. We know the time and energy it takes to get things top notched by Memorial Day…… EVERYTHING is in need of attention. We were in need of an RV site for one night and IT was picture perfect. So perfect we made reservations for a week long stay, mid June and It was one of the most beautiful places we have ever been. Its more than I had ever expected….. we loved the campfires at each site, sun sets that were out of this world, staff always friendly and willing to do whatever our needs were. I really felt that the staff went out and above their jobs and then Jennie, the manager, told us they were work kampers. We were overwhelmed. So in talking with them, we found out that they are here not only for the beauty of this area, but in and around this area; working 20 hrs a week was well worth the summer here at EBR.
We’ve done horse back riding at several of the places around here only to see different area’s but we have found that EBR was tops in our books. Their horses were clean, not full of manure, and the ride was beautiful with not only scenery but also wildlife.
We were upset with the review titled coloradocamper123 with their comments. Obviously they were here in early May and had no idea how life is when you deal with natures elements. They really should consider coming back to this ranch after all the preliminary work from the winter months is completed.
Anyone who enjoys some of the simple things in life that God has given us and has not yet been destroyed by humans, plan a stay at EBR.

48. “What a beautiful setting for a wedding”
5 of 5 starsReviewed June 18, 2009
The wedding I attended May 22 2009 was incredable. The setting was beautiful and the service was supurb. I will deffinatly recomend this resort to freinds and families. I hope to book a furuur stay at Echo Basin so that I can experience more of the many amenities they have to offer . The pool looked very inviting. Horse back riding at sunset and then a meal in the lodge would be fun. The senery is as pretty as it gets with wildlife everywhere.

49. “A wonderful place to relax.”
4 of 5 starsReviewed June 18, 2009
We found Echo Basin to be way off the highway so very quiet and beautiful. The pool and spa were just being opened when we were there and had some winter damage which was being repaired. Spa was hot by the time we left.
Horse back riding is available by reservation although we didn’t try this. We did try the restaurant which had great food, I would recommend the fish dish, however everything the others at our table ordered was very good. So was my margarita.
The ranch has both an RV park and rustic cabins. Some of the ammenities like the tennis courts and volly ball courts still need new netting but those are coming. The golf course is not complete but there is a putting green which our friends enjoyed. The basics of friendly service and a place to kick back and relax with wonderful sunsets are all present.

51. “A wonderful place to stay in an RV or cabin for a day, week or month.”
5 of 5 starsReviewed June 11, 2009
We stayed in our RV for 8 nights. Jenny, the manager, is a ball of fire, moving at near supersonic speed to take care of what needs done. Despite her high energy and fast moving pace, she finds time to make each visitor feel as though they just joined the most wonderful family. Meagen, the young lady who manages the horses you can ride (well worth it, by the way), is also a top-notch, people-friendly person who also makes you feel part of the family while here. The ranch is well cared for, very attractive and has large pull-throughs and back-ins for any size RV. The cabins and other facilities are well looked after as well. The saloon/restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere and good food and drinks. This place is money well spent for a day, week or month. Very convenient to Mesa Verde National Park, Durango and Cortez. Guaranteed you will see wildlife in and around the ranch! We’ll be back.

52. “Loved Echo Basin.”
4 of 5 starsReviewed July 1, 2008
We are here right now, along with 3 other couples. We are all staying in motorhomes. We are enjoying our stay and love the area and the horses. Although the park has some problems, we would all come back again. Unfortunately, the pool and hot tub have not been working properly due to winter damage. Everyone who works here has been friendly.

56. “Just what we wanted
Reviewed January 7, 2008
Can’t wait to go back to our small rustic cabin in the mountains of Colorado. We wanted a secluded and private vacation with our small children. The best part was riding with our children for the first time. It is all they talk about. Next time we will ride more. The goats on our cabin deck in the morning were awesome. We even fed them so they’d come back. We love Colorado.

57.  “fantastic summer vacation.” My family and I attended a beautiful wedding at Echo Basin during the summer and it turned out to be much more than I ever expected. My whole family and I had such a great time riding the horses through the beautiful forest and enjoying the sun by the pool. The staff was very helpful and went above and beyond to make sure that we had everything that we could have ever wanted. The manager Jennie was especially helpful in accomadating us in whatever we needed or wanted. The week turned out to be a summer vacation instead of simply attending a friends wedding and I would very much like to thank the whole staff for making us feel so welcome.
